Pathology Tests

Hi Barry,
Thanks for the prompt reply.
The thing I don't see in the model is how you distinguish between a test that can be done
on Blood OR Urine as opposed to a test that requires Blood AND Urine to be performed.
For both these scenarios wouldn't the entries on the specimen_types_and_test_types table be
the same so how would you distinguish the AND/OR relationship?

Not really a request Barry more of query.
In pathology there are 3 main types of relationships found between pathology tests and
the specimens that are required to be collected to perform the test examples below :-
a) Test A can be performed on blood OR urine as in say an Amino acid profile or a sodium level
b) Test B can only be performed on blood (e.g. a Complete Blood Count)
c) Test C requires two different specimens Blood AND urine to be collected to perform the test (e.g. creatinine clearance)
Any thoughts on how would you model the relationship between test requests and their collected specimens in a relational database?
Just curious as I am having difficulty doing this
regards
Howard Beswick
